Holiday World plans world's longest water coaster

Holiday World officials announced Wednesday that the amusement park in Santa Claus, Ind., will open the world’s longest water coaster, called the Mammoth, to anchor their Splashin’ Safari water park next May.
The $9 million ride will be the largest single investment in the park’s history.

“We added the Wildebeest water coaster last year, and it was a runaway hit,” park president Dan Koch said. “So we asked our designers for something even bigger. It’s so huge, we’re calling it Mammoth.”

The ride will be located just east of the Wildebeest and will begin with a conveyor ride up the water coaster’s lifthill. Following a five-story drop at a 45-degree angle, linear induction motors will propel six-person round boats up additional hills, into dark enclosed sections and through twists and turns. Mammoth will cover three acres and will increase the water park to 30 acres, officials said.

The drenching new ride will include a total of six drops, adding up to 282 feet in total drops. Mammoth’s length will be the greatest of any water coaster in the world, 1,763 feet, or a third of a mile.
The speed and ride time won’t be known until the ride is tested next spring, prior to opening.

Mammoth will have a capacity of 1,080 guests per hour. Riders will have to be at least 42 inches tall to ride and 48 inches tall to ride without an adult. The weight limit is 1,080 pounds per boat.

Mammoth’s tallest elevation will be 69 feet higher than its lowest drop. The conveyor-style lifthill will replace slide-tower stairs, making the water coaster accessible to riders who might have difficulty walking up steps.
The Mammoth ride designer is ProSlide Technology Inc., Ontario, Canada.

The Mammoth announcement came on the 65th anniversary of the park’s opening as Santa Claus Land.
Holiday World and Splashin’ Safari will be open this summer through Aug. 16 and then most weekends through Oct. 9.
