This Saturday, September 17 is Constitution Day! The constitution is the most important document in the history of our national government. This year as we celebrate the 224th anniversary of its signing, September 17, 1787; please take time to read this document, study it with your children, and discuss its great principles.
If you don’t have a copy handy their are several Internet sites to go to and read it;
www.wereadtheconstitution.com and www.montpelier.org are two. The latter is a website that contains much information about James Madison who was instrumental in the writing of the constitution. There are also websites for the kids that make it fun to read and study.
One more important thing for all of us to remember is a quote from Alexander Hamilton, who was involved in the writing of this great document.
“For my part, I sincerely esteem it a system which without the Finger of God never could have been suggested and agreed upon by such a diversity of interests,” he said.
And “We the people of the United States, in order to form a more perfect Union.....”
We can thank our founders for providing us with the instrument and government that has endured for theses 224 years.
May God continue to bless our great nation.
