I was really ready for bed (at the beginning of a change), when my mother sent me a text message informing me of what happened to Pastor David Wilkerson. Today we lost a great man of God - one of my heroes. Pastor David Wilkerson died after a tragic car accident at the age of 79. He built his legacy with strong messages that change the life, devotion to God sold out and a burden for people in need.
I first heard of David Wilkerson, after watching a video clip which was titled "Wake Up Church!" And "An appeal to fear." From there, I saw clip after clip, and read through several of its publications. Did not take long to realize that Pastor David Wilkerson was a jewel in the Kingdom of God, with several events that affected my personal life. There is something special about this man, no doubt. The Reverend David Wilkerson, founding pastor of the church in Times Square in New York and author of The Cross and the Switchblade, was killed Wednesday in a collision in Texas. He was 79.
"It is with deep sadness that we inform you about the sudden death of Pastor David Wilkerson, founding pastor," the Times Square Church Pastor Carter Conlon said in a statement on the church site.
Conlon added that details of the request of the family and a memorial service would be provided as information became available.

Details of the accident
Wilkerson was headed east on U.S. 175 in Texas in the afternoon, and moved to the opposite lane in a tractor-trailer heading west. The truck driver saw the car and tried to leave the road, but collided with the senior pastor of the car, according to Public Safety Trooper Eric Lang.
It is not known what causes Wilkerson to meet the other way. His wife, Gwen, was also involved in the accident and transported to the hospital with the truck.
Wilkerson was pronounced dead at the scene.

Wilkerson posted a blog dated April 27th - the day of his death. In the post titled "When All Else Fails Media, who are struggling to" hold "position and encourages strong in faith.

Wilkerson also founded Teen Challenge, a Christian relief program for troubled youth.

He is survived by his wife, four children and 11 grandchildren.
